We strolled toward Grand Central Station down along Fifth avenue which was lined with some unbelievably expensive jewelery stores. In the shopfront windows were pink and yellow diamonds of 4 and 5 carats- ENORMOUSSS!!
On the way to our lunch destination we got SO hungry we stopped at a 'STREET MEAT' stand to get a half way meal. We all got hot dogs and i got a chilli dog and they...were.... AWESOMEEE- so much better than Harry's. although when you see these street carts you are left wondering- where the hell do these guys go to toilet? or wash their hands? or wash any part of their tools and cooktops? luckily....they wear a rubber glove....to keep their hands clean!
We arrived at the station to understand the real meaning of the word GRAND!! The building is an unbelievable epitome of colonial extravagance architecture. Polished marble and sandstone walls with high vaulted and intricately painted ceilings adorned with huge shiny and classy chandeliers. The walkways and stairs and wide and high making them bright and exciting. Words cannot describe the character of this building. We went down a couple of flights of stairs to the food concourse and found the Oyster Bar. The inside of the restaurant is as amazing as the rest of the building with stone tiled vaulted ceilings. The Menu was HUUUGEE, with a massive range of oysters from all around the continent. We all ordered as if we were high life fancy pants locals- raw oysters, crab cream soup, garlic butter scallops and lobster crab cocktails.....except daisy...who got deep fried fish and chips (WTF?)- so deep fried you needed to use the crab cracker to get the fish and potato out of the batter. The food was nice but not incredible- the experience was worth everything though.
