After breakfast we decided to head to the top of the city to take advantage of the beautiful clear skies. First stop was Rockefeller centre!! I had heard that the Empire State is far too busy and the Rockefeller tower has about 4 blocks worth of goodness to explore. We started in the main square where theres a ice skating rink and the famed Rockefeller Christmas tree. The skaters and christmas lights really give this place an awesome atmosphere. Theres also teams of salvation army guys ringing bells to blaring christmas carols whilst absolutely ROCKING out in dance -and they were awesome dancers....I had to leave quickly before they asked me for money.
It had only just turned 9am so we headed for 'TOP OF THE ROCK' with minimal lines. The elevator has a clear ceiling with blue and red LEDs guiding you to the top and when you get to the top....instant light and glory- i imagine its much like when you get to the end of the lit tunnel when you die. The views were endless and amazing! Seeing central park and the bridges which navigate the waterways of Manhattan was like a surreal dream. The day was already cold enough at the foot of the building, the top of the building was incredibly icy and windy. It felt like Canberra mornings X10. In normal circumstances a coat and scarf would suffice in beating the winds, but becuase my ears stick out so far out of my head, the pain was too much to bear and i had to wrap my scarf around my head to stop from fainting- Arab at the top of an iconic jewish landmark...lei lei lei lei lei
When we finished from 'TOP OF THE ROCK' we explored the Rockefeller square a little more and found the ULTIMATE lego store with a 20m long dragon and a 5m high Atlas statue made ENTIRELY OF LEGO. The screaming kids and shoving tourists were too much for Daisy and she silently stormed off in a fit of happy rage. After about 10 seconds Bec and I realised she wasnt amongst us and we went searching amongst the huge crowds surrounding the touristy square. After about 1 hour of searching my heart sank into deep fear about how i was going to get her luggage back home without her...because the airline only allows 2 bags per person. In a moment of divine intervention i glanced through the crowds with my squished squinty eyes to see daisy standing in the middle of the square scratching her head looking completely content. Bec and I ran as fast as we could, yelling out to her while we navigated through the dense crowds. We found her standing under the beautiful christmas tree happy and waiting, like she knew we were coming- it was a CHRISTMAS MIRACLE (that i didnt strangle her).
We had enough of the huge crowds and decided to head over to GRAND CENTRAL STATION for the famous OYSTER BAY for lunch.
